Rabbi Leib Tropper earned his ordinations early in his career, during his time teaching baalai teshuva at Ohr Sameach. Hagaon Harav Sroyohu Deblitzky shlita, a talmid muvhak of the Chazon Ish zt”l, gave Rabbi Tropper his first ordination. The second ordination originated from then Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rav Ovadia Yosef shlit”a. The Mara D’asra of Yerushalayim, Harav Betzalel Zolty bestowed the third ordination. The fourth and final ordination is most treasured by Rabbi Tropper as it came from Maran Harav Elazar M Shach zt”l, the Ponevezher Rosh Yeshiva. Rabbi Schach has only granted an ordination to three people.
Rabbi Leib Tropper’s education was steeped in the traditions of Orthodox Judaism. A native of New York City, he attended the local Yeshivas Yaakov Yosef. After graduating, he continued his religious training at yeshivas in Philadelphia and then Cleveland before moving to Israel shortly before his 15th birthday. In Israel, Rabbi Tropper studied at Jerusalem’s Yeshivas Torah Ore in Mattersdorf, a Haredi neighborhood. During his more than five years as a talmid at Torah Ore, he received much of his hadaracha from the Rosh Yeshiva Maran Harav Chaim Pinchus Scheinberg shilt”a, who was also instrumental in forming Rabbi Tropper’s professional approach to Hashkafa and Chinuch.
